Creating sustainable bird populations, communities and economies are full of challenges. It’s a social task that is not meant to be tackled alone. The Communities of Action program connects leaders to one another so they can share bird conservation ideas, foster innovation in green space preservation and development, properly manage systems of unintentional reserves for birds, wildlife and people in urban areas, and create results. This program brings together professionals spanning public and private sectors, nonprofit organizations, and other experts with on-the-ground-experience to shape and advance novel and science-based solutions that are beneficial for bird populations, human health and economics.
The Communities of Action program facilitates information sharing and sustainability model development through meetings and conferences, production of resources, best-practices materials, and through an e-newsletter that lets members know where urban preserve and unintentional reserve models are being managed, created and implemented. Building this awareness among members accomplishes three goals:
For conservation to last, we NEED to restore our connection and accessibility to birds and open space in urban and suburban communities.
