Conservation Policy

Urban Bird advocates for the conservation of urban birds and their habitats by engaging and collaborating with government officials. We inform policymakers about the most effective ways to protect bird populations for the benefit of ecosystems, people and communities. We partner with state and U.S. government agencies to implement programs, and participate in hands-on conservation projects that support healthy urban ecosystems, and the sustainable use and protection of natural resources. We also collaborate with businesses and other non-governmental organizations to develop and promote sound planning and public policy — items critical to the success of long-term bird conservation efforts in our communities, region and nation.

Urban Bird is a champion for birds, open space and people. We are working locally and regionally for a national transformation, including:

• Petitioning to gain protections for urban birds and habitat through the creation, enhancement and preservation of green spaces in urban and suburban communities.
• Participating in city and county council and planning meetings, engaging and informing government officials, agencies and policymakers at the local, state and national levels, contributing to environmental convention meetings on sustainable development, urban parks and bird conservation, and much more.
• Educating the public through training workshops, engaging the media, distributing resources on the environmental, educational, health and economic benefits of maintaining urban bird populations, and protecting natural and mixed-use green spaces, and organizing public meetings.
